Nasoalveolar Molding (NAM) Workshop

Course Description: This 2-day hands-on course on Nasoalveolar Molding therapy for patients with cleft lip and palate will provide knowledge and skills to dentists and physicians for establishing Nasoalveolar Molding (NAM) therapy protocol in their clinical practice. The course will cover prenatal consultation, feeding techniques, infant impression technique, NAM appliance fabrication, biomechanics of adjustments, alveolar and nasal molding, and modification of the surgical technique. In addition, long-term research outcomes of NAM therapy will be discussed. The course is taught in lecture format as well as hands on laboratory technique. Fabrication and adjustment of a NAM appliance .The participant will become knowledgeable and be able to offer Nasoalveolar Molding therapy to their patients with clefts. The teaching methods for this course are lecture and workshop

Course Goals and Objectives:

At the conclusion of the course, the participant will:

• Will be able to provide prenatal consultation and feeding techniques to their patients

• Understands the benefit of NAM treatment and evaluate patients with clefts for NAM treatment

• Learn to obtain alveolar impression on infant with clefts

• Learn the concepts of fabrication, insertion and taping of NAM appliance

• Learn to teach families home care of NAM therapy

• Make weekly adjustment to NAM plate for alveolar and nasal molding and monitor progress

• Understand the modification of surgical treatment to benefit NAM therapy

• Management of emergency visit and complication of NAM therapy

• Future application of 3D printing of NAM appliance

• Understand current research outcome literature of Nasoalveolar Molding Therapy
